Basketball Recap: Venice Extends Winning Streak to Three

Venice waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 55-46 victory over the University Wildcats. Given the Gondoliers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 823rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

University lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Orpheu Cummings, who went 6 for 10 en route to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonah Hansen, who posted 11 points.

The win got Venice back to even at 12-12. As for University, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Venice will square off against Fairfax at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for University, they will face off against Westchester at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
