Basketball Recap: AJ Chang's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Morningside Academy over St. Edward's

Morningside Academy and St. Edward squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Morningside Academy had to settle for second. They took a 57-39 bruising from the St. Edward's Pirates. The Eagles have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was AJ Chang, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds. Chang's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Stephen Moss, who posted nine points and eight boards.

St. Edward's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gary Anderson, who had six points along with 17 rebounds and eight blocks. Anderson is becoming a predictor of St. Edward's success: when he posts at least three blocks the team is 12-6 (and 0-3 when he doesn't). Wyatt Burdick was another key player, dropping a double-double with 20 points and ten boards.

Morningside Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 16-11. As for St. Edward's, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Morningside Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Edward's, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 70-44 loss against Florida Prep on the 7th.
