Athens won the last time they faced Vinton County and things went their way on Friday too. The Bulldogs simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Vikings 52-0. The Bulldogs' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Athens' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Briar Thomas, who threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. The Bulldogs' leading receiver Weston Wheatley was Thomas' top target yet again, picking up 119 receiving yards and one TD.

Athens' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Tremayne Scott was especially locked on to Vinton County's QB and sacked him 2.5 times. Blake Taylor got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The win keeps Athens at an undefeated 5-0. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 49.0 points this season. As for Vinton County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Athens wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 44-7 win against Warren on the 27th. As for Vinton County, they have also already played their next matchup, a 12-8 victory against Alexander on the 26th.
