Softball Recap: Benton Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Herrin, Benton was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Massac County Patriots by a score of 7-4. The game was the first time the Rangers have beaten the Patriots on their field since April 8, 2019.

Malia Webb (2025) was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenna Drew, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Benton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in six consecutive matches.

Benton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Massac County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Benton will welcome Frankfort at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rangers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Redbirds have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Massac County, they will venture away from home to square off against Carterville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight.
