Baseball Recap: Basic Falls Short Against Ranked Cypress

Basic is ranked highly in their home state and on Tuesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Cypress. The Wolves fell just short of the Centurions by a score of 2-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Wolves' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Noah Sebastian was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since March 6th.

At the plate, Basic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Kelley, who went 3-for-4 with one double. Kelley has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times he's played. Gabe Giron also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

With the loss, Basic broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-5. As for Cypress, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-3.
