Basketball Game Preview: St. Andrew's Lions vs. New Hampstead Phoenix

The St. Andrew's Lions will face off against the New Hampstead Phoenix at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Andrew's is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Last Saturday, St. Andrew's was able to grind out a solid win over Hiram, taking the game 54-43. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Hornets are ranked 341st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Zayden Edwards, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine assists. The match was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Amari Cook, who posted 11 points and three steals.

St. Andrew's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, New Hampstead came up short against Ware County on Tuesday and fell 86-75. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (64), the Phoenix still had to take the loss.

St. Andrew's victory bumped their record up to 11-2. As for New Hampstead, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

St. Andrew's and New Hampstead were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, but St. Andrew's came up empty-handed after a 63-62 loss. Can St. Andrew's avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
