Basketball Recap: Washington County's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Bertie wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Washington County, they should've done a better job of containing Aaliyah Carter. The Washington County Panthers took down the Bertie Falcons 49-33 on Friday thanks to Carter, who went 8-for-14 on her way to 19 points. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Jasiya Burton-Bailey, who posted two points and three steals. She has become a key player for Washington County: the team is undefeated when she posts at least three steals, but 6-9 otherwise.

The victory made it two in a row for Washington County and bumps their season record up to 11-9. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.5 points over those games. As for Bertie, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington County will venture away from home to challenge Gates County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Gates County will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Washington County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bertie, they are taking a road trip to face off against Tarboro at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
