Basketball Recap: Spackenkill Spartans vs. Rondout Valley Ganders
The Spackenkill Spartans were the 50-30 winner over the Rondout Valley Ganders when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Spackenkill fell just short of the Ganders by a score of 32-29.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marlena Delaurentis, who scored 12 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Delaurentis has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maryclare Parker-stark, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Spackenkill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Spackenkill's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Rondout Valley, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spackenkill will take on the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Red Hook presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Spartans in New York (the Raiders are ranked 172nd, while the Spartans are ranked 374th). As for Rondout Valley, they will be playing at home against the Comets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fallsburg and the Ganders are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
