Softball Recap: Lakeside Comes Up Short

Lakeside extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-10. They lost 22-1 to the Geneva Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-3 on Thursday.

Lakeside saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Murphy, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

As for Geneva, they now have a winning record of 7-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Geneva's side, Caidyn Siegel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Siegel has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Lakeside will head out to square off against Conneaut at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.18 runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Geneva, they will challenge Edgewood at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
