Baseball Recap: Prospect Gets the Win

Prospect won the last time they faced Del Mar and things went their way on Friday too. The Panthers came out on top against the Dons by a score of 10-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Jeremy Wang and Alex Hand made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Wang didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Hand tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wang has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Wang went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hand went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Wang is becoming a predictor of Prospect's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryce Pollace, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Prospect: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Henry Little, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Prospect hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

The win got Prospect back to even at 8-8. As for Del Mar, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Prospect will venture away from home to face off against Live Oak at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Acorns have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Del Mar, they will head out to take on Silver Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
