Greeneview is 9-1 against Madison Plains since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Rams will head out on the road to take on the Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Greeneview will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Greeneview had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Catholic Central on Saturday. The Rams blew past the Irish 10-1. Considering the Rams have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jaden Van Tress was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Elliott Zimmet also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Greeneview hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Madison Plains hadn't done well against West Liberty-Salem recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Golden Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Eagles have posted since April 17th.
Gavin Rhoads made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Evans, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
Greeneview pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Madison Plains, they moved to 14-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Greeneview has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Madison Plains struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Greeneview took their victory against Madison Plains when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-3 score. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Golden Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
