Baseball Recap: St. Augustine Catholic's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

St. Augustine Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Morenci Wildcats by a score of 7-3. That's two games straight that the Wolves have won by exactly four runs.

Sergio Cordova and Owen Ernle were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Cordova didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Ernle pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Cordova is becoming a predictor of St. Augustine Catholic's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 6-13 when he doesn't). At the plate, Cordova went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Ernle went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI Ernle has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Patrick Manriquez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025. Gabriel Dominguez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

St. Augustine Catholic's win bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Morenci, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-17.

Looking ahead, St. Augustine Catholic is taking a road trip to take on Benson at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Morenci does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
