Baseball Game Preview: Braintree Wamps vs. Hanover Hawks

The Braintree Wamps will square off against the Hanover Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Braintree 2.9, Hanover 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Wednesday, Braintree came up short against Milton and fell 6-2. The Wamps have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hanover, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Quincy on Wednesday as they made off with a 14-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Hanover got a great performance from Ben Freedman as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Joseph DaCosta, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Cole Hendrickson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Hanover kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.4.

Braintree's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Hanover, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7.

Braintree came up short against Hanover when the teams last played back in May of 2023, falling 3-0. Can the Wamps avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
