Lincoln Southwest extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 12-8 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 6-5 to the Waverly Vikings, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 on Friday.
Aiden Stelling was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Luke Mitchell was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Landon Sandy was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
As for Waverly, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 17-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.
On Waverly's side, they got a big performance out of Brennan Miller, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Thoms, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Lincoln Southwest wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-3 loss against Creighton Prep on the 25th. As for Waverly, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-2 defeat against Kearney on the 25th.
