Softball Recap: Columbiana Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Columbiana waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Leetonia Bears 17-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 20-1 on Monday.

Caitlynn Pleska made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since April 1st.

In other batting news, Columbiana let Maryn Hepler and Ella Dota run wild. Hepler got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Dota got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases Dota has posted since back in April of 2024. Alexis Sperling also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Columbiana pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Leetonia, they are on a 25-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbiana will face off against Jackson-Milton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Clippers 3.9, the Bluejays 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Leetonia, they will take on United at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bears are facing the Golden Eagles at the right time seeing as the Golden Eagles are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
