Soccer Game Preview: Yoakum vs. La Vernia

Yoakum is 1-8 against La Vernia since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Yoakum Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the La Vernia Bears at 7:00 p.m.

Yoakum is looking to pick up the season's first win, something they couldn't quite do against Gonzales on Friday. The two teams finished up on equal footing with a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, La Vernia entered their tilt with San Antonio Memorial on Friday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They put the hurt on the Minutemen with a sharp 4-1 win. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by three goals or more this season.

La Vernia pushed their record up to 8-3-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four matchups. Yoakum's draw makes their record 0-8-1 this season.

Yoakum suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to La Vernia in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Yoakum was down 7-0.
