Softball Game Preview: Centralia Orphans vs. Mt. Vernon Rams

For the second straight game, Centralia will face off against Mt. Vernon. The Orphans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Centralia 1.6, Mt. Vernon 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Centralia was handed a six-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mt. Vernon, sneaking past 3-1.

For Mt. Vernon's part, Danicah Tobin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. Tobin has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mt. Vernon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arwin Wilkey, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Mt. Vernon has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-6 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Centralia, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.
