Preview: Canton C-Hawks vs. Chamberlain Cubs
Canton is 4-0 against Chamberlain since August of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Canton C-Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Chamberlain Cubs at 7:00 p.m. Canton will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Canton on the road against Custer as the squad secured a 55-23 win. Canton pushed the score to 55-20 by the end of the third, a deficit Custer cut but never quite recovered from.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last match, Chamberlain made sure to put some points up on the board against Milbank on Friday. Chamberlain was the clear victor by a 33-13 margin over Milbank. The result was nothing new for Chamberlain, who have now won three contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Cruz Soulek got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 242 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Soulek was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards. Another player making a difference was Bryce Reuer, who rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Their wins bumped Canton to 6-2 and Chamberlain to 4-4.
Canton strolled past Chamberlain when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a score of 38-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for Canton since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
