Baseball Recap: Vel Phillips Memorial Takes Down Middleton in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Vel Phillips Memorial rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Middleton Cardinals. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by just one run.

The win (which was Vel Phillips Memorial's third in a row) raised their record to 20-8-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for Middleton, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 19-9 record.

Vel Phillips Memorial didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 14-4 defeat against Sun Prairie East on the 10th. Middleton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
