Basketball Recap: Lewistown Victorious

If Astoria/VIT wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Lewistown, they should've done a better job of containing Abby Wiegand. The Lewistown Indians blew past the Astoria/VIT Rebels 45-16 on Thursday thanks in part to Wiegand, who posted 22 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Lewistown's points.

Another player making a difference was Carsyn Braun, who put up six points along with five boards and three steals. That's the most rebounds she has posted since back in December of 2024.

Astoria/VIT's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Janaysha Young, who scored two points, and Kathrin Miller, who had no points and five boards.

Lewistown's win bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Astoria/VIT, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Lewistown didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-30 loss against Mendon Unity on the 13th. As for Astoria/VIT, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 61-27 defeat against Brown County on the 13th.
