Faith Christian has gone a perfect 4-0 against Irvington Preparatory Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Eagles will be playing at home against Irvington Preparatory Academy at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Faith Christian is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against South Newton on Thursday. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Rebels 8-7. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.
Christian Carlson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, earning one run and three stolen bases.
In other batting news, Ethan Seubring was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Carter Haynes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Irvington Preparatory Academy entered their tilt with Anderson Prep Academy on Thursday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They put the hurt on the Jets with a sharp 19-2 win. Considering Irvington Preparatory Academy has won five games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Faith Christian, Irvington Preparatory Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Cortez Jenkins. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Jenkins has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs.
In other batting news, Jordan White and Owen Kriech did most of the damage at the plate: White got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs, while Kriech went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Kriech has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Corbyn Eaton, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Irvington Preparatory Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .571 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Irvington Preparatory Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Faith Christian, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Faith Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Irvington Preparatory Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Faith Christian skirted past Irvington Preparatory Academy 10-9 in their previous meeting back in May of 2018. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do Irvington Preparatory Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
