The Summit Hilltoppers will venture away from home to take on the Kent Place Dragons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Summit had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Oak Knoll on Thursday. The Hilltoppers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Royals an 11-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Hilltoppers in their matchups with the Royals: they've now won six in a row.
Hannah Jacobson made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Jacobson was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Juliana Alicea, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Caroline Putnam was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Summit lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Knoll didn't launched any home runs.
Nine must be Kent Place's lucky number: they beat Mountain Lakes with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Dragons came out on top against the Lakers by a score of 9-6.
Like Summit, Kent Place also got a great game from a two-way player: Emma Geppel. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Geppel was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Maya Hardy was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mackena Singer, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Summit's record is now 2-0. As for Kent Place, their victory ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-1.
Summit came out on top in a nail-biter against Kent Place in their previous matchup back in May of 2017, sneaking past 1-0. Will the Hilltoppers repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
