Volleyball Recap: Minarets Beats Fowler for Their Fifth Straight Victory

While Minarets's win against Fowler wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Redcats on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Minarets was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The final score came out to 25-20, 23-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-8.

Leading Minarets to victory were Olivia Fontanilla and Syria Baca. Fontanilla had 16 digs and seven assists, while Baca had 11 digs and three aces. Those 16 digs gave Fontanilla a new career-high.

They weren't the only good servers: Minarets was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fowler only served six.

When it comes to explaining why Fowler lost, don't look at Lauren Renn. Despite the final result, she had 12 digs.

The win got Minarets back to even at 16-16-1. As for Fowler, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 17-14-1.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Minarets will challenge Immanuel at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fowler, they will square off against Corcoran at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
