Basketball Recap: Memorial Comes Up Short

Memorial lost a heartbreaker to Heritage when they met back in February of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Tuesday. The Memorial Warriors were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 63-62 to the Heritage Coyotes. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Coyotes are ranked 20th).

Heritage was led to victory by Bryson Howard and Cameron Lomax. Howard went 11 of 18 on his way to 24 points, while Lomax posted 26 points. The game was Lomax's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Roman Bradley, who scored seven points.

The defeat snapped Memorial's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 17-8 record. As for Heritage, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-4.

Memorial will challenge Independence at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Memorial's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 16 matchups. As for Heritage, they will take on Liberty at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Liberty has won four straight at home, while Heritage won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
