Soccer Game Preview: Newtown vs. Pomperaug + How To Watch

The Newtown Nighthawks will head out to face off against the Pomperaug Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Newtown's defense has only allowed 0.2 goals per game this season, so Pomperaug's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Newtown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Bethel, who was ranked fifth at the time (Newtown was ranked 12th). The two teams finished up on equal footing with a 1-1 draw on Tuesday. The result kept Newtown happy, as they haven't lost a game since September 25th.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Pomperaug's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They played to a draw too, finishing 0-0 against Bunnell. The draw was nothing new for Pomperaug, who haven't lost a matchup since September 27th.

With that draw, Pomperaug's record moves to 10-6-2. Meanwhile, Newtown's record is now 10-1-2.

Newtown skirted past Pomperaug 3-2 in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Nighthawks since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
