Softball Recap: Clay City Takes Down West Washington in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Clay City walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the West Washington Senators on Saturday. The Eels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.

Lizzy Sinders made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kambryn Rhodes and Faith Mitchell did most of the damage at the plate: Rhodes went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Mitchell went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. Abigale Shearer was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.

Clay City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Washington only posted a batting average of .185.

Clay City is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for West Washington, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 23-6 record.

As of now, neither Clay City nor the Senators have any future games scheduled.
