Basketball Recap: Evadale Falls Short of Goldthwaite in the Playoffs

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Evadale couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 52-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Goldthwaite Eagles on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Evadale saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brett Buckner to rack up 15 points. The dominant performance gave Buckner a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Talon Bennett, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Evadale smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Evadale's defeat dropped their record down to 31-8. As for Goldthwaite, they are on a roll lately: they've won 21 of their last 23 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-6 record this season.

Evadale does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Goldthwaite, they will square off against Mumford at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Mumford sitting on five straight victories and Goldthwaite on 16.
