Softball Recap: Franklin Pierce Starts Season with Victory at Home

Franklin Pierce gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over Orting. Franklin Pierce hasn't had any issues with Orting recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Leila Kennach spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Laneigha Garcia was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Lindsay Gade, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Orting is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklin Pierce will head out to square off against Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Franklin Pierce will need to watch out since Washington has now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season. As for Orting, they will square off against Eatonville at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Orting's pitchers better be ready for this one: Eatonville has averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
