Football Recap: Fallbrook Takes a Loss

Fallbrook extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-4. They took a 42-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Carmel Sundevils. The Warriors gained 64 more yards on the day, but it was the Sundevils that made the best use of them.

Despite the defeat, Fallbrook saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Teague Lucy picked up 67 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 64 yards. Lucy didn't just play on offense: he also made five total tackles and defended one pass.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.9 yards per carry. While two picked up at least five total tackles, Lucy stood above the rest. He picked up 67 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 64 yards. Fallbrook didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.4.

As for Mt. Carmel, they now have a winning record of 3-2. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

A big part of Mt. Carmel's win came down to the chemistry between Kelle Leuck and his top target Connor Gibbons. Leuck threw for 282 yards and four touchdowns while Gibbons picked up 175 receiving yards and a pair of scores. That's the most passing yards Leuck has posted since back in October of 2024. Nate Donohue got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Looking ahead, Fallbrook will host Santana at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Sultans' defense has only allowed 12.2 points per game this season, so the Warriors' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Mt. Carmel, they are taking a road trip to face off against Patrick Henry at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
