Football Game Preview: Stratford Elks vs. Farwell Steers

Stratford is a perfect 4-0 against Farwell since November of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Elks will face off against the Steers at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Stratford's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last three games.

Stratford's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They breezed past Vega to the tune of 42-0. The win continues a trend for the Elks in their matchups with the Longhorns: they've now won five in a row.

Darius Jones had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 149 yards and three TDs while completing 90% of his passes, and also catching one score. Chase Lantelme was another key player, rushing for 92 yards and one touchdown.

Stratford didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jones and Lantelme.

Meanwhile, Farwell unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a blow against Gruver, falling 56-14. The Steers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.

Although Farwell took the loss, they still got scores from Andrae Pullen and Joel Juarez.

Farwell's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-2-1. As for Stratford, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Stratford has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 155.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Farwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 194.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Stratford took their win against Farwell when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 35-14 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Elks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
