Winchester Thurston had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Union Area on Wednesday. Winchester Thurston put the hurt on Union Area with a sharp 13-4 victory. The result was nothing new for Winchester Thurston, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Sam Hammons made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Benji Smuckler, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Lucas Picher was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Winchester Thurston's win bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Union Area, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9.
