Basketball Recap: Caroline Ward's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bishop Verot over Somerset Academy - Canyons

Bishop Verot and Somerset Academy - Canyons squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Bishop Verot had to settle for second. They took a 61-44 bruising from the Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Cougars are ranked tenth).

Bishop Verot lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Caroline Ward, who posted 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. The contest was her fifth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron O'Halloran, who scored 13 points and six boards.

Somerset Academy - Canyons got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Alana Pinnock out in front who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds. Pinnock is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games she's played. Delanie Doty was another key player, putting up 13 points along with five boards and five steals.

Bishop Verot's loss dropped their record down to 20-8. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

Bishop Verot does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars take on the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
