Preview: Ayala Bulldogs vs. Charter Oak Chargers

Ayala has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on The Charter Oak Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Ayala is not getting complacent, as they comes into the match much higher ranked than Charter Oak in California (Ayala is ranked 84th, while Charter Oak is ranked 246th).

Last Friday, it was close, but Ayala sidestepped Bonita for a 29-26 win.

Marquis Monroe continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 176 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also picking up 104 receiving yards and a touchdown. Monroe was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards. Jaden Valenzuela also helped out as he racked up 110 receiving yards.

Charter Oak can finally bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They breezed by Alta Loma on the road to the tune of 41-7.

Charter Oak's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Corin Berry led the charge by throwing for 116 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Torry Huff and his 87 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Charter Oak's win.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Alta Loma to a paltry 212 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Charter Oak's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was LaVar Arrington and his 2.5 sacks.

Their wins bumped Ayala to 4-4 and Charter Oak to 2-6.

Ayala and Charter Oak were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, but Ayala came up empty-handed after a 30-29 loss. Thankfully for Ayala, Richie Munoz (who threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 14.0 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
