Softball Recap: Ridgeview Takes a Loss

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Ridgeview and Oakleaf had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Panthers fell just short of the Knights by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Saige Bialek put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Hannah Smith and Peyton Kirk stepped up to the plate in a big way. Smith went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Kirk scored a run while going 2-for-3. That triple was Smith's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emma Lundy, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Ridgeview's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Oakleaf, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-11.

Ridgeview wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-2 defeat against Trinity Catholic on the 14th. As for Oakleaf, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 3-2 victory against Baldwin on the 15th.
