Basketball Recap: North Sanpete Comes Up Short

North Sanpete was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against the Richfield Wildcats, falling 63-42. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Wildcats are ranked 29th).

When it comes to explaining why North Sanpete lost, don't look at Ridge Hendry. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 14 en route to 21 points and seven boards. That was a full 50% of North Sanpete's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of McKay Schlappi, who scored seven points.

Richfield's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gage Yardley, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jess Curtis, who put up 14 points and three steals.

North Sanpete's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Richfield, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

North Sanpete didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 74-68 defeat against Manti on the 31st. As for Richfield, they have also already played their next game, a 45-37 win against Juab on the 31st.
