Softball Game Preview: Metro Tech Knights vs. Alhambra Lions

For the second straight game, Metro Tech will face off against Alhambra. The Knights will be playing at home against the Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Metro Tech is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Last Tuesday, Metro Tech came up short against Alhambra and fell 10-7.

For Alhambra's part, Aliyah Carranza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Carranza has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Emelie Bello was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Amelia Garcia, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.

Alhambra kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 0.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.4.

Alhambra has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Metro Tech, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
