Recap: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. Hunt Warriors
This season hasn't been kind to the Smithfield-Selma Spartans, who are still winless after their tenth match. They took a serious blow against Hunt on Friday, falling 68-7. Smithfield-Selma was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-3.
Hunt was led to victory by Ti'asia Taylor and Mahalia Thoms. Taylor scored ten points along with five steals, while Thoms scored 13 points along with five rebounds. The contest was Taylor's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikayla McNeill, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Smithfield-Selma bumped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Hunt, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smithfield-Selma will take on Fike at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fike presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Smithfield-Selma in North Carolina (Fike is ranked 145th, while Smithfield-Selma is ranked 584th). As for Hunt, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Southern Wayne at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Southern Wayne focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday.
