Softball Recap: Santa Ana Valley Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

Santa Ana Valley hadn't done well against La Quinta recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Falcons blew past the Aztecs 16-2. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Espy Guerrero made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Karla Oliva was a standout: she scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kathy Lopez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Santa Ana Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Quinta only posted an OBP of .462.

Santa Ana Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for La Quinta, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Santa Ana Valley will host Estancia at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for La Quinta, they will be playing at home against Loara at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
