The Gilroy Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Willow Glen Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Gilroy comes in on six and Willow Glen on 25.
Gilroy barely beat Westmont the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 13-0 win on Tuesday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.
Ariela Yslava made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jennie Hernandez was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Andrea Alvarez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Gilroy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in seven consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Willow Glen made easy work of Leigh on Tuesday and carried off a 6-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Sienna Wilson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Haley Ocumen, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Willow Glen's win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 25-0. As for Gilroy, their record is now 18-6.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gilroy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. However, it's not like Willow Glen struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
