Softball Recap: Charleston Bluejays vs. Malden Green Wave
Charleston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss. They lost 18-1 to the Malden Green Wave. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Charleston of the 16-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.
For Malden's part, Alyssa Broom was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Broom has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Broom was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Emma Elmore was a standout: she scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3. Mariah Loya was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.
Charleston's loss dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Malden, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-17 record this season.
