Baseball Recap: Rio Rico Takes a Loss

Rio Rico fell victim to Safford and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 1-0. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Hawks' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Not much got past Connor Switalski, who gave up just three hits to keep Safford off the board. Switalski has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Rio Rico has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Safford, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-7.

Looking ahead, Rio Rico is taking a road trip to challenge Cholla at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hawks 3.7, the Chargers 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Safford, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Tanque Verde at 6:00 p.m. The Hawks will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
