Preview: North Stanly Comets vs. Mount Pleasant Tigers

The North Stanly Comets will head out on the road to challenge the Mount Pleasant Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in North Stanly's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches.

North Stanly stacked a 13th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They blew past South Stanly 61-19 at home. Given North Stanly's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while South Stanly is ranked 577th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

North Stanly's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Giavonna Dunlap, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten steals. Dunlap has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Shalyn Bell, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 68 points the game before, Mount Pleasant were a bit more limited in their match on Tuesday. They were beaten by Albemarle 74-21. Mount Pleasant was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-12.

North Stanly's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 28 points. As for Mount Pleasant, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.

North Stanly took their win against Mount Pleasant in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 45-23. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Stanly since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
