Softball Game Preview: Ripon Indians vs. East Union Lancers

The Ripon Indians will face off against the East Union Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Ripon is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

On Thursday, Ripon needed a bit of extra time to put away Hughson. They had just enough and edged out the Huskies 4-3.

Angelina Martinez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addison Naranjo, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Alana Hernandez, who went 3-for-4 with one double.

Ripon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, East Union didn't have quite enough to beat Oakdale on Thursday and fell 3-1.

East Union saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Fallon Norman, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Ripon pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for East Union, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
