Baseball Recap: New Richmond Comes Up Short

New Richmond extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 7-14 in the process. They fell 4-0 to the Archbishop McNicholas Rockets. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rockets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Ethan Taggart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

As for Archbishop McNicholas, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games.

On Archbishop McNicholas' side, Joey Albert tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Albert has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Archbishop McNicholas saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Colyer, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave Colyer a new career-high.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Richmond will venture away from home to challenge Mariemont at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Archbishop McNicholas, they will head out to face off against Princeton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
