Baseball Recap: Coopersville Gets the Win

Coopersville hadn't done well against West Catholic recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Broncos came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 7-3. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Jace Gutknecht looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Preston Lien, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Jayden Timmons was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coopersville's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for West Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Coopersville and West Catholic could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Broncos will face off against Kenowa Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (163 vs. 34). Meanwhile, West Catholic (ranked 187th) will meet Lansing Catholic (ranked 32nd) at 10:00 a.m. on the 9th.
