Volleyball Recap: St. Charles Pirates vs. Holt Indians
St. Charles lost against Holt on September 4th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Pirates lost 3-0 to the Indians. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Pirates have suffered since September 16th.
While St. Charles was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Holt's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-18.
Grace Basler paced St. Charles' offense, picking up seven kills. Basler got some help from Brynn Genebacher and her eight assists. Rosemary Kuegele controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.
Holt found their leader in sophomore Ashlyn ` Winans, who had 17 digs and three assists. Winans has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more digs the last three times she's played.
St. Charles has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11-3 record this season. As for Holt, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.
St. Charles has already played their next match, a 3-2 win against Winfield on the 2nd. As for Holt, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 victory against Veritas Christian Academy on the 1st.
