Basketball Recap: Lincolnton's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak at Home

If Lincolnton was riding high fresh off their 56-32 takedown of Patton last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lincolnton Wolves received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 57-42 to the Newton-Conover Red Devils. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Red Devils are ranked 74th).

Defeat or not, Lincolnton got some senior leadership from Sarah Rhyne and Chelsea De Los Santos. Rhyne posted 11 points and eight rebounds, while De Los Santos earned 13 points. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for De Los Santos. Another player making a difference was Curmiya Tillman, who scored eight points.

Newton-Conover's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sara Sain, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 19 boards. Sain is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last six games she's played. Lea Boyens was another key player, going 5 of 9 en route to 16 points and seven assists.

Lincolnton's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8. As for Newton-Conover, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-3.

Lincolnton has already played their next contest (against Bandys), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Newton-Conover will welcome East Burke at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in East Burke's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven games.
