Basketball Game Preview: Springport Spartans vs. Reading Rangers

The Springport Spartans will face off against the Reading Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Springport's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home while Reading has been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Springport is headed into the match having just suffered their closest loss since February 16, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Quincy by a score of 48-46. The game marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Springport had strong showings from Jake Kregel, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 15 points, and Hunter Miller, who went 5 of 8 en route to 14 points. The dominant performance gave Miller a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Dallas Higelmire, who posted eight points.

Meanwhile, Reading played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Stockbridge, falling 64-18. The Rangers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-7.

Springport's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for Reading, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.
