Softball Game Preview: Kenowa Hills Knights vs. Spring Lake Lakers

The Kenowa Hills Knights will square off against the Spring Lake Lakers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 12 consecutive losses for Kenowa Hills and five for Spring Lake.

Kenowa Hills fell victim to Sparta and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 15-0 to the Spartans.

Whitehall hit Spring Lake with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lakers came up short against the Vikings, falling 12-5. That's two games in a row now that the Lakers have lost by exactly seven runs.

Ava Twa was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and eight unearned) runs off 12 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Khloe Melinn was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Lyons, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Kenowa Hills' loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Spring Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
