Baseball Game Preview: Davie War Eagles vs. Watauga Pioneers

The Davie War Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Watauga Pioneers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Davie is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

Last Wednesday, Davie came up short against East Forsyth and fell 11-6.

Coy James made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Hayden Potts also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Watauga didn't have quite enough to beat Hibriten on Friday and fell 6-5.

Evan Burroughs was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. He has become a key player for Watauga: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 6-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of JT Cook, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Watauga has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Davie, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Davie hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Watauga struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Davie came up short against Watauga in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 8-4. Can the War Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
